Jason Edwards brings more than two decades of law enforcement, security, and executive protection experience to his role as Founder and President of Second City Security Group. During his 20-year career with the Chicago Police Department, Jason has served in some of the department’s most demanding and specialized assignments. Throughout his career, he has earned more than 200 departmental awards and recognitions, including the Chicago Police Leadership Award, a Life Saving Award, and 26 Department Commendations, along with numerous other honors recognizing exceptional performance, leadership, service, and dedication to public safety.

His early career included extensive experience in undercover narcotics and gang investigations, as well as work alongside federal law enforcement partners, including the FBI, ATF, HSI, and DEA. During his federal task-force assignments, Jason was deputized by the FBI and entrusted with significant responsibilities in complex federal investigations. He also served as a case officer on federal Title III (T-III) wiretap investigations, contributing to sophisticated, court-authorized investigations targeting complex criminal organizations.

In 2020, Jason was promoted to Homicide Detective, where he investigated complex violent crimes and developed extensive experience in major case investigations. His performance and leadership led to his promotion to Sergeant in 2022. He was subsequently assigned to Chicago’s 011th District on the West Side, where he supervised a tactical team responsible for proactive policing, violent-crime suppression, and crime-reduction initiatives.

In the summer of 2023, Jason returned to the Detective Division as a Sergeant in the Homicide Unit. In his current leadership role, he has led and supervised his team in complex homicide investigations resulting in the arrests of more than 150 homicide offenders. He continues to provide investigative leadership and oversight in some of the city’s most serious violent-crime investigations, coordinating personnel, investigative strategy, and resources to bring cases to successful resolution.

Beyond his law enforcement career, Jason has more than 20 years of experience in the private security and executive protection field. His protective-security experience includes work with USA Basketball, as well as providing security and protective services for numerous prestigious and high-profile clients. This experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of executive protection, threat awareness, discretion, advance planning, and the unique security requirements associated with high-profile individuals and organizations.

Jason earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa and his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University. Complementing his formal education and extensive field experience, he has completed thousands of hours of specialized professional training and holds numerous certifications in executive protection, leadership, investigations, law enforcement, and related security disciplines. His commitment to continuing education and professional development ensures that his approach incorporates both decades of real-world experience and current practices in the security and investigative professions.

Today, Jason brings this combination of law enforcement leadership, investigative expertise, executive protection experience, advanced education, and specialized training to Second City Security Group.
